What is the best compact tractor ,for the money? kubota L35 ? New HollandTC 29 ? I want a loader/backhoe.

John, I guess asking which is the best compact tractor is kind of like asking which is the best car. Lots of different opinions, and lots of different brands. The "big 3" or brands I would consider are John Deere, Kubota, and New Holland; they're all good tractors (and I'm sure some other folks will add other brands in their preferences). You say you want a backhoe/loader. Well, you can get that on any of them, but you just have to decide how much you'll be using the tractor and for which purpose. The New Holland TC29 is a nice tractor (I have a cousin who has one), and I have a Kubota B2710, but neither of us has a backhoe. And while backhoes are available for both of them, the Kubota L35 is made more specifically for backhoe use, and in my opinion is the best way to go. However, if you're going to be doing a lot of mowing, plowing, tilling, etc., well . . ., one of the other models might be preferable. Just go to the dealers and ask to test drive them and get the one that feels right to you. ....

I like the New Holland Boomer the best. Have a TC29D with R4's & front end loader, and I love it. For my 2 cents, if you do go with New Holland, get the D model and not the standard. Depending on how much back hoe work you plan on doing you might consider getting a 3 pt hitch back hoe from Bush Hog. That way you don't have to much equipment mounted on your tractor all the time. To many brackets & mounts will just be in the way.

John, what a loaded question! I got a huge smile when I read your post, because, like Bird says, lots of opinions out there. My take is that a lot of the opinions are based on religion: do I worship at the House of Orange, House of Blue, House of Green, etc.? Seriously, there are excellent choices out there today in many colors. First: assess your needs. Backhoe/loader work only? Big work in big spaces or smaller jobs in tighter quarters? Any mowing? Other work where you may want to remove the backhoe and/or loader occasionally? Frequently? Second: try them out (drive them and operate them) to see how you like the controls, response, comfort, etc. A hydro pedal setup that I like you may hate. Have the dealer demonstrate removal and reattachment of the loader and backhoe if you will be changing them at all. Third: assess the dealers and try to visit more than one for each brand. I found a HUGE variation across dealers: good ones in every color and horrible ones in every color also. Now for my two cents: 1) If you want a DEDICATED loader/backhoe setup it's hard to top the Kubota B21 or L35. That's what they are designed for and they are great machines. Their downside is that they don't do all the other stuff as well because they are optimized for loader/backhoe work. 2) At the other end of the scale, if you want a loader/backhoe tractor that you also want to use for other tractoring purposes and envision taking the backhoe and/or loader off frequently, it's going to be hard to beat the John Deere 4300-4700 series with their OEM loader and backhoes. They were designed to optimize attachment and detachment ease of the loader and backhoe and IMO they lead the pack in this department. For example, the JD4x00 backhoe mounting frame allows use of a belly mower without removal of the mounting frame; most backhoe subframes cannot be used with a belly mower. 3) I really liked the ergonomics and design of the TC29D and the TC33D tractors, but wasn't as impressed with the OEM loader and backhoe designs as the JD and Kubota. I don't know if the design or performance is really less; it's just what my impression was. I could be wrong. Anyhow, get out there, try them out, and find a dealer you like. Good luck! ....

Buy the best and buy it once..I have a JD4600 w/48 hoe..very nice BUT if you are doing mostly construction type work get a L-35. ....

I think one of the best all-around loader/backhoe combinations (especially if you need 3-point versatility too) is the L4310HST and Bradco 609, but that's only because that's what I bought. ;>) ....

You can't compare the L-35 kubota to any of the compacts, or better said there is no comperable tlb to the L-35 look at the spec's. ....
